Corporate Headshots for Healthcare Organizations
A corporate headshot is a standardized professional portrait used to represent a person on behalf of an organization: on the website, in directories, on badges and on professional networks. In healthcare the stakes are a little different from, say, an accounting firm. Patients often choose a provider partly on a photo, so the picture is part of how trust is built before the first appointment.
This guide is written for the person who has been asked to sort it out: a practice manager, operations lead or marketing coordinator. It explains what a good corporate headshot has in common, the three realistic ways to get them, and how to decide.

What corporate headshots are used for in a clinic
- The provider and staff pages on your practice website.
- Third-party directories and hospital or network listings.
- ID badges and, where used, patient portal profiles.
- Recruiting pages and LinkedIn, where candidates and referrers look people up.
- Press, conference and committee bios.
What makes a corporate headshot work
LinkedIn’s own published advice is a reasonable baseline, because it is written for exactly this purpose. It recommends a photo that looks like the person today, with the face filling about 60% of the frame, cropped from the top of the shoulders to just above the head, with the person alone in the shot and a simple background. It also recommends soft natural light over harsh overhead lighting or flash, and notes that solid colors tend to do best on camera.
For an organization, add one more requirement: consistency. A page where every person has the same crop, background tone and general level of formality looks deliberate. A page of mixed snapshots looks like nobody owns it.
Three ways to get them
| Route | Strengths | Tradeoffs |
|---|---|---|
| Hire a photographer | A real photograph, professional lighting and direction. LinkedIn notes a professional headshot typically costs between $200 and $400. | Cost scales with headcount, one day of scheduling for everyone, and part-timers or new hires get missed. |
| Staff take phone photos | Free and immediate. | Quality and style vary widely from person to person; consistency is hard. |
| AI headshots | $29 one-time per person, 10+ headshots in 10 minutes from 8–20 phone photos, no scheduling. | Generated images, not photographs; each person must review for accuracy; some employers or platforms may require a real photograph. |
How to decide
- If a platform, hospital network or employer requires a genuine photograph, use a photographer.
- If you have a large team and one photo day is realistic, a photographer gives the most uniform result.
- If you have remote, part-time or rotating staff, or you need photos quickly or for new hires between sessions, AI or good phone photos are easier to keep current.
- Many practices combine them: a photographer for the physicians’ provider pages and AI or phone photos for the wider staff page.
A short plan for the first rollout
Write down the standards (see our staff page photo guidelines template), tell staff what to do and by when, collect the images, check them side by side, and publish together. Our team headshots guide walks through the project steps in detail.
Common mistakes
- Using group photos cropped to individuals, which leaves stray shoulders and hands in the frame (LinkedIn recommends solo photos).
- Mixing very different backgrounds on one page.
- Letting photos go years out of date. LinkedIn advises a photo recent enough to reflect how the person looks on a daily basis.
- Publishing without permission. Get each person’s agreement first, and follow your own policies and local requirements.
Frequently asked questions
- Do all staff need a corporate headshot, or only clinicians?
- That is a choice for each organization. Many practices include everyone on the staff page for a welcoming, consistent look; others show only providers.
- Can we order for a whole team?
- Each person generates their own set. Use the contact form below to ask about team onboarding or department packages.
